Kagabhushundi Lake/Tal Trek:

The kagabhushundi lake is cocooned in the Garhwal Himalayas in the Joshimath range, Uttarakhand state. The Kagabhusandi Lake is a small emerald green lake situated at an altitude of 5,230 meters near Kankul Pass (5,230 m) almost a km in length. It is a paradise for nature lovers as they can admire the beauty of the sublime Neelkanth, Chaukhamba, Thailya Sagar, Brigupanth, and Nar-Narayan Peaks during the trek. Amidst the snow-covered ranges of Kunkul Pass, lies a mesmerizing trail that leads to the Kagabhushundi Tal. 

Mythology story about Kagabhushundi lake:

Valmikiji, when we credit as the 1St documenter of Ramayana. It is believed that Rishi Kagabhushundi narrated Ramayana to Giddharaja Garuda way before him. The story of P. S. Rama was first narrated by Lord Shiva to Maa Parvati. This story was overheard by a crow. This crow was reborn in form of Rishi Kagabhushundi, Rishi Kag.. remembered entire story of P. S. Rama ad narrated by Lord Shiva in his previous birth. He narrated his itihasa to his students in this way, the history of P. S. Rama got passed down. This narrative of P. S. Rama by Lord Shiva is known to us as Adhyatma Ramayana. 
               Meghnada, son of Ravana during Lanka war, paralysed P. S. Rama with spell of Naga Pasa. On request of Deva Rishi Narad, Giddharaja Garuda was feasted on snakes, free Lord Rama from spell by creating havoc amongst the Naga. Observing how easily Rama got paralysed by Naga's a doubt emerged in Garuda mind as to whether Rama indeed was supreme consciousness to clear his doubts Narada sent Garuda to Lord Brahma. L. Brahma informed Garuda that his doubt can only be cleared By Rama. L. Shiva directed Garuda towards Rishi Kaga. to attain clarity. Finally R. Kaga cleared all doubts of Garuda by narrating the holy story of P. S. Rama. 
The Place where this story was narrated is this very Kagabhushundi Lake.

Kagabhushundi Lake/Tal Trek Uttarakhand:

5-7 Days (Rishikesh, Uttarakhand)

Location - Joshimath Range, Chamoli District, Uttarakhand, India.

Altitude - 5,230meters. 

Trek Length - 55km(approx).

Trek Difficulty - Moderate to Difficult.


Best Time:

- May and June (Rainy season).
- September and October (Best month and for        beautiful views ).


Two routes are available:

1- Via Govindghat and

2- Via Vishnuprayag.


1- Via Govindghat, Itinerary:

•Day 01- Joshimath to Samartoli:

(Pulna village) - 4km 
(Bhyundar village)- 3km 
(Kargila meadow, 11,000ft) -4km 
(Samartoli 3,300m/11,700ft You can saw the Hathi Ghoda Range).


•Day 02- Samartoli to Machi Tal:

(Raj Kharak- 9km from Samartoli, 13,100ft)

( Camping Spot, Way- Infested with moraines and boulders). Route from Raj Kharak is steep ascents which is extremely tiring). 

(Choti Machi Tal- 13,700ft, 7km from Raj Kharak).
( It is believed that this lake is inhabited by celestial beings like apsara, Yogini and Gandharva. Who perform intense austerities here. Machi Tal enveloped by stunning views of Hathi Parvat ranges of Himalayas were outstanding).

•Day 03-  Machi Tal to Kagabhushundi Lake:

(The route from here is extremely steep and filled with boulders).

(Zhende Waali Dhara- 14,500ft, 8km).
The route uphill from Zhende Waali Dhara leads to Kankula Pass).

(Kankula Pass- Joins 2valleys, 4km).

(Kagabhushundi Lake/Tal- The entire region is a crossover dimension of cosmic energy in form of Prabhu Shri Rama and cosmic energy in form of Kala).

•Day 04- Kagabhushundi to Raj Kharak:

•Day 05- Raj Kharak to Joshimath:

(And in day 6 morning you can go to Rishikesh by your cab, car or bus).

•Day 06- Joshimath to Rishikesh:

(Trip ends here leave Joshimath early for your return journey home from Rishikesh).


2- Via Vishnuprayag:

•Day 01- Rishikesh to Joshimath:

•Day 02- Joshimath to Souldhaar:

(Painka- 3km).
(Souldhaar- 8km).

•Day 03- Souldhaar to Jehri Kharak: 

(Vinayak Dhar- 5km).
(Jehri Kharak- 3km).

•Day 04- Jehri Kharak to Bhainstal:

(Bhainstal- 2km).

•Day 05- Bhainstal to Kagabhushundi Lake and return to Raj Kharak:

(Kagabhushundi- 5km).
(Raj Kharak- 9km).

•Day 06- Raj Kharak to Joshimath:

(Joshimath- 11km).

•Day 07- Joshimath to Rishikesh:

(Trip ends here Leave Joshimath early for your return journey home from Rishikesh. This will be the last leg of your trip to the mountains. Take along a large pile of unforgettable memories in this Kagbhusandi Lake (tal) Trek).


* NOTE: Get experienced guide either from Govindghat or Bhyndhar Village. Generally trekkers come down by same route but recommend to trek down a different route from Kagabhushundi- via Painka Village, which offers some great scenic views.
