Mayali Pass is situated at a height of 5,000 meters above sea level, Mayali Pass trek is another hidden gem in Uttararkhand Himalayas. In ancient times, it used to be the preferred trail for the adventurous pilgrims travelling from Gangotri to Kedarnath.
The Mayali Pass is regarded as the toughest trek in Gharwal Uttararkhand and is rarely challenged by trekkers. The trek of Mayali Pass can be undertaken from two routes- one is from Ghuttu and other is from Mala village near Uttarkashi. While the trek route from Mala offers perfect scenic beauty, it is 2-week trek. The trek route from Ghuttu is shorter one (9-1 days).

At a distance of 61km from Ghuttu village and 15km from Kedarnath, Mayali Pass is situated at an elevation of 5300m in Bhilangana valley and it offers great views of Masar Tal and Vasuki Tal. The spectacular view of Thalay sagar, Kedar dome and other peaks of Gangotri region.

Mayali Pass is a famous place for trekking in Uttarakhand and is followed by many trekkers every year. The Mayali Pass trek from Ghuttu to Gaurikund is of moderate difficulty. The remote Indian villages of Gangi, Bhilangana river catchment, Thalay sagar peak, and Khatling glacier are the highlights of Mayali Pass trek.

Where is the Mayali Pass?
Situated at an elevation of 5300m in Bhilangana valley, Mayali Pass is known for offering the glimpses of Masar Tal and Vasuki Tal- two lakes sacred to Hindus. Also the pass is famous for the spectacular view of Thalay sagar, Kedar dome and other peaks of Gangotri region. To reach the pass, trek will have to pass through remote village, deadly forest, catchment area and glaciers.
Best time to visit:
Best time to travel to Mayali Pass is in summers (May-June) and post-monsoons (September- mid October).
Summers: The weather of Mayali Pass trek remains pleasing during summers. The Himalayas are distinctly visible and the cool breeze adds charm to the vacation. Carry woolens with you.
Post Monsoon: The region is blessed with snowfall during winters and the accomodation options also remain few. But you can see the best of Mayali Pass trek during Post Monsoon as it looks like Heaven on earth.
